ESL 0920 English Language Skills for Academic Reading I
(also ENG 0920; formerly ENG/ESL 092)
This course focuses on reading for academic purposes. Students will read and respond to a variety of genres, and learn to skim, scan, make inferences, as well as summarize and paraphrase reading. Students will also learn to understand authors’ purpose, stated and implied, and tone. Readings will be used to improve vocabulary, sentence structure, transitions, grammar, and mechanics. Minimum grade of "C" required. Zero degree credit. Three credit hour equivalent.
