PHI 2900H (Honors) Civilized Ideas
(formerly PHI 225H; PHI 325H; French Thought and Civilization; Ancient to Early Modern; Ancient and Medieval)
All great societies are founded upon profound philosophical ideas. Philosophers throughout the centuries have attempted to give voice to these ideas in ways that are consistent with the cultures in which they arise. This course will focus on a specific historic society in Western civilization (Ancient Greece, Imperial Rome or Enlightenment France) and will explore the seminal ideas that have shaped that society and its people. Honors students only.
