SWK 3500 Professional Encounter: When the Person Meets the Profession
(formerly SWK 350)
This four-credit course serves as an experiential introduction to generalist social work practice. It consists of a five-hour weekly on-site field education experience designed to expose social work students to the profession's values and practice issues in the public and private social service arenas. The combination of on-site faculty instruction and field education creates an innovative learning environment that promotes the acquisition and cultivation of self-awareness and professional skills. Using the framework of the six core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence, students will experience the integration of theory and practice across the micro, mezzo, and macro practice levels.
