SOC 3000 Basics of Social and Behavioral Research Methods
(also PSY 3000; formerly PSY 311, PSY 211, SOC 300; formerly Introduction to Experimental Design; also formerly Research Methods)
Introduction to research methods in the social/behavioral sciences. The course will cover reading and critiquing original research articles and methods of research design from sociology, criminal justice, psychology and child life studies. Qualitative and quantitative research designs – survey research, interview/focus groups and evidence-based practice designs will be explored. Students will gain exposure through in-class assignments and will conduct data analysis using SPSS and/or Social Explorer. Students will conduct an original research project. Not open to Psychology Majors who will take PSY 3110 or PSY 3120.
