SWK 3570 Human Services in Health Care

(formerly SWK 357)

This course is designed to prepare students for the full range of human service skills needed to be effective practitioners in a health care setting. Course content will focus on: working with populations who are experiencing acute or chronic health problems; working with different ethnic and minority groups, and especially vulnerable people including the poor, the elderly and those with disabilities; working in a fast paced environment of crisis and time constraints; the tools needed to function in complex health care systems; and consideration of the principles and skills of interdisciplinary practice. Given the ongoing changes in health care delivery since the inception of the Affordable Care Act, attention will be paid to the opportunities, as well as the threats posed by these health care changes, and the adaptation of skills needed to respond to this changing environment.
