ASL 1010 Beginning American Sign Language I
This course is an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL). Students will focus on mastering the basics of finger-spelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar and sentence structure. Students will also learn conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in ASL with deaf/hard-of-hearing native users of the language. Introductory information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture will also be presented to provide students with a broad understanding of the language and culture. This course is intended for students who have no experience with the language. NOTE: Students who took SLP 2750 or SLP 2760 should consult with the Chair of the Department of Language and Cultures for placement.
