General Education Requirements (35 Credits)

Arts and Fine Arts (3 Credits) One out of two disciplines: ART History or COM Speech Communication
English Composition (3 Credits) ENG 1100
Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 Credits) Three out of four: History, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology

Philosophy (3 Credits)

Core Course (4 credits)
NOTE: The General Education requirement is 44, and has been adjusted to 35, because 3 credits the Languages requirement is waived; the following Major requirement will also satisfy a General Education requirement: MUS 2000. Students will take a total of 3 credits in either a Languages or Literature course for the Languages/Literature requirement.
Major Requirements (62-64)
Major requirements total may vary depending on Music Theory Placement.
A grade of "C+" or higher is necessary for all required music courses.
Music Theory Placement Requirement (0-2 credits pending waiver)
0-2 Credits pending waiver: Students who fail the department’s Theory Placement Exam must complete 2 additional credits.
Music Core Requirements (40 Credits)
Choose One of the Following (1 credit)
Music History/Theory Elective Requirement (6 Credits)
(6 credits minimum in additional Music History/Theory Electives)
Piano Requirement for Non-Pianists (2 Credits)
Determined by a placement exam. Waivers given by the Department Chair to pianists who do not need the courses (2 credit minimum):
Non-pianists complete (2 credits)
Applied Music Requirement (8 Credits)
Select Applied Music courses from: MUS 1250-1540
Ensemble Requirement (6 Credits)
Required each semester for 0-1 credits. Must be selected relative to student's primary instrument or voice. Complete from the following (6 credits):
Recital Attendance Requirement (0 Credits)
MUS 0100 is required for 8 semesters.
Related Requirements (3 Credits)
Second Languages or Literature (3 Credits)
Allowed Languages courses are: ARA, CHI, ESL, FRE, ITA, SPA.
Note: (No ASL) Refer to the General Education Section of the Catalog for appropriate courses.
Electives (18-20 Credits)
The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) requirement for a B.S. degree is met. FST 1000 counts towards required Electives. If MUS 1010 is required for 2 credits, take 2 less Electives. If Piano Requirement is not needed, take 2 additional credits.
