ASL 1010 Beginning American Sign Language I

This course is an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL). Students will focus on mastering the basics of finger-spelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar and sentence structure. Students will also learn conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in ASL with deaf/hard-of-hearing native users of the language. Introductory information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture will also be presented to provide students with a broad understanding of the language and culture. This course is intended for students who have no experience with the language. Students who took SLP 2750 or SLP 2760 should consult with the Chair of the Department of Languages and Cultures for placement.

NOTE: Open to first and second year students only, or to students enrolled at Molloy prior to Fall 2019.
