Languages and Cultures
Following in the long Dominican tradition of study and respect for the world's diverse languages and cultures, the Department of Languages and Cultures offers a wide range of course aimed at developing the linguistic proficiency and cultural competence of our students in Arabic, ASL, French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and ESL. In addition, it offers students of every discipline a wide range of opportunities to engage with world languages and cultures with its study abroad programs, service-learning opportunities in local and international communities and co-curricular activities.
The degrees this department offers are: B.A. in Spanish Language and Hispanic Literature and Cultures; B.A. and B.A./M.S. in Adolescence Education-Spanish; B.S. and B.S./M.S. in Childhood Education with a concentration in Spanish; and a concentration for an Interdisciplinary Studies major. Students may also enrich their academic experience by double majoring in Spanish or completing a minor in Italian, Latin American and Latino Studies, Spanish or Spanish for Health Professions. For students whose major does not allow room for a double major or a minor, the Department offers the possibility of attaining a Language Certificate.
