FIN 3820 Insurance and Risk Management
This course examines a wide range of topics related to identifying, assessing, and managing risks from the property and liability insurance industry perspective. Students will be exposed to how this industry operates and, more importantly, how risk management is a crucial concept in the insurance industry. There is an element of risk management in both our personal and professional lives. Insurance is one tool for risk management. Content will focus on issues and concepts in underwriting, marketing, claims and claims management, reinsurance, pricing, loss control and the regulatory environment. This class will feature three “panel discussions” with guests from the insurance industry. The topics will be Careers in Insurance; Underwriting/Actuarial Functions; and The Claims Process.
