BUS 5090 Accounting Information System and Data Analytics
Data has proliferated in business and managers and accountants need to understand the implications for decision-making and tap into the data to provide better insights into a firm/client/customer/supplier, etc. This course provides students with an in-depth study of data analytic thinking and terminology as well as hands-on experience with data analytics tools and techniques. Students will learn the skills necessary to translate accounting and business problems into actionable proposals so that they can competently present to managers and data scientists. This course offers students a deeper understanding of the importance of Accounting Information Systems (“AIS”) and data analytics by focusing on AIS concepts, preparing data analyses to support management decision making and external reporting while focusing on the importance of ethics, internal control and information security to ensure corporate governance.
