NUR 5294 Foundations of Epidemiology for Community Health
This course introduces graduate students to the applications of epidemiologic methods and procedures. This leads to the study of the distribution and determinants of health and diseases, morbidity, injuries, disability, and mortality in populations. Epidemiologic methods for controlling conditions such as infectious and chronic diseases, community and environmental health hazards, and unintentional injuries are discussed. Other topics include quantitative aspects of epidemiology, for example, data sources, morbidity and mortality measures, association and causality evaluation, study design, and screening for disease. Students are expected to incorporate current research and theoretical bases to synthesize epidemiological concepts and implications for health care action: 3 credits, 45 lecture hours per semester.
