Admission Requirements
An interview, an audition, and a theory placement examination are required of all prospective Music Majors, Music Therapy Majors, and Music Education Majors. Accepted students who matriculate into any music major are required to complete a music theory placement assessment prior to registration.
Transfer Music, Music Education, and Music Therapy program student applicants must have a minimum of 2.75 cumulative GPA. Applicants will be invited to audition if their prior music coursework reflects this minimum requirement.
Auditions (In-Person or On-line)
All applicants to any Music degree programs must audition. Applicants are required to:
- Perform at least two contrasting pieces in their primary instrument or voice
- Interview with program faculty
Theory Placement Assessment
Newly matriculated students take a theory placement assessment prior to registration to ensure proper advisement and placement in courses.
Based upon the audition and theory placement assessment results, successful completion of remedial work may be required prior to matriculating as a Music major in the department. Molloy University offers elective private instruction for non-matriculated students who may need remedial work. Private instruction may be recommended to students who are strong academically and show musicality, but require foundational knowledge in music.
