NUR 5059 Synthesis of Education and Nursing Practice

Education is an integral element of the nursing profession. The overarching goal of this course is to achieve proficiency in the fusion of education and nursing in contemporary healthcare. It focuses on educational principles and issues applied to healthcare. This course is designed to provide opportunity to engage in the full scope and depth of the educational process within the nursing profession and the healthcare environment. Seminars are conducted biweekly, and emphasize intellectual exchange related to historically valid tenets and practices, and current influences upon education and nursing.  A precepted practicum of 90 hours at an affiliating institution is the venue for an experiential component in an academic and/or clinical setting. The preceptorship allows for analysis of processes and implementation of principles and practices. Ongoing assessment of the student by faculty and preceptor leads to final evaluation according to course criteria. Concepts of scholarship, leadership, quality and collaboration are integrated throughout the course. 15 seminar hours and 90 practicum hours.
