MUS 5050 Music Therapy Foundations

This course will introduce a variety of topics in the music therapy discipline and profession, including the history of the profession, educational and training requirements in the field, explorations of how health, well-being, and disability are conceptualized, major theories and methods of music therapy, developing a culturally sensitive and responsive approach to practice, and ethical considerations in practice. Case examples from a variety of clinical settings and client conditions and life experiences will be discussed and music therapy processes will be explored through arts-based experiential learning. This course also includes fifty hours of observation of music therapy sessions.
