ENG 2111 Book to Film

Students will read-deeply-a single novel/ play/ or other literary work and watch at least one screen adaptation of that text. Through comparative analyses of these paired works, students will be able to argue for aesthetic, generic, and cultural rationales behind any changes made. Examination of the cultural backgrounds and target audiences of each work's iteration will encourage students to see "behind the screen" and realize, perhaps, why films are seldom word-for-word re-enactments of written texts.
