Repeating Courses

The most recent letter grade earned is the grade that counts towards the cumulative GPA, earned credits and towards the degree requirements. Prior grades are forgiven but remain on the transcript and as part of the term GPA for the term they were recorded. No course that a student has already received a satisfactory grade (passing grade per requirement of the program) may be repeated. In the case that an exception is made to repeat a course with a satisfactory grade, the student should be aware that this would affect progression requirements for certain types of Financial Aid and increase the time needed to graduate. Credit is never granted for the same course twice, except for the cumulative credit courses.
Master of Business Administration: A grade of B- is the lowest grade acceptable toward degree requirements in the School of Business programs of study. A course in which the student receives a grade below B- may be repeated once. Students may repeat a maximum of two courses once each. Students not earning a B- for a repeated course are subject to dismissal from the program. Three grades below a B- will result in dismissal from the program.
Master of Science in Music Therapy: Courses may be repeated only once. The option to repeat a course may not be used more than two times (two courses, once each) for all other disciplines. The option to repeat a course in Music Therapy is also limited to one (1) repetition in two (2) courses. Please see your program handbook for additional information.
Master of Science in Nursing: Courses may be repeated only once. The student may use this option on two different courses. Please see your program handbook for additional information.
Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology: Courses may be repeated only once. The option to repeat a course in Speech-Language Pathology is limited to one (1) repetition in two (2) courses. The option to repeat a course may not be used more than twice (two courses, once each) for all other disciplines. A third grade that is not accepted for credit toward degree requirements will result in dismissal from the program. Please see your program handbook for additional information.
Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Courses may be repeated only once. A grade of B- is the lowest acceptable grade toward degree requirements in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. The option to repeat a course in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is limited to one (1) repetition in two (2) courses. A third grade that is not accepted for credit toward degree requirements will result in dismissal from the program. Please see your program handbook for additional information.
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.): Students must attain a grade of B or better in all courses. Any student who receives a grade lower than a B in any course must repeat that course in the following semester. A course may be repeated only once. Failure to maintain a grade of B when taking a course for the second time necessitates withdrawal from the Ed.D. Program. According to Molloy University policy, if a student retakes a failed course and passes, the F grade will be forgiven. However, students in the Ed.D. program will not be able to repeat more than one failed course. Failure of more than one course necessitates withdrawal from the Ed.D. Program. Students who have been withdrawn due to academic failure may not be readmitted to the Ed.D. Program.
Doctor of Communication Sciences and Disorders (PhD): Courses are required to be repeated if a student earns a “Fail” grade in a course that has only Pass/Fail grading option or less than a B in courses with a letter grade. A Ph.D. student can only repeat the same course twice. A student can repeat a maximum of two courses before being put on Academic probation. Failure in a third course will lead to dismissal.
Doctor of Nursing (PhD): A course where a student earns less than a B-, or “Fail” in a pass/fail course, must be repeated. A course may be repeated only once. The option to repeat a course may only be used twice during the program.
