EDU 5687 Operations and Management in Educational Settings
This course is designed to equip aspiring district and school building leaders with the knowledge, skills, and conceptual foundation necessary to effectively manage and lead schools as open social systems. Emphasis will be placed on key areas of school administration, including budgets, personnel and facilities management, school culture, student affairs, policy development, community engagement, and the broader political, economic and cultural influences that shape learning organizations. This course will prepare aspiring school and district leaders to manage operations and resources - both monetary and nonmonetary - to promote the mission and vision of the school. Students will also develop strategies for effective communication with staff, parents, and community leaders to support and achieve educational goals. The course will utilize a variety of instructional methods including literature review, case studies, lectures, cooperative learning, problem-solving techniques, and research.
