EDU 5689 Data Analysis for Continuous Educational Improvement
This course provides an in-depth analysis of issues related to organizational change and strategic planning, combined with the critical role of data-driven decision-making to improve teaching and learning at the school and district level. Participants will explore the nature and applications of strategic planning theories to think, decide, and plan strategically, while also learning how to collect, analyze, and use data to diagnose strengths and weaknesses across grades and schools. Strategic leadership and management require district leaders to initiate and implement shared goals, communicate effectively, align district goals, and understand the theories and conflicts associated with large-scale organizational change. Participants will develop or sustain an educational vision for the district, define a plan for success, and nurture relationships with all stakeholders. The integration of technology to develop instructional strategies will assist schools in meeting learning standards for all students.
The course will culminate with a project examining a public school district in New York State, and presenting a detailed, data-informed action plan for district improvement. Field experience will be a component of this course, including experiences in districts serving students at different developmental levels and with a variety of characteristics and socioeconomic backgrounds. Participants must complete a two-page summary outlining their field experience.
