EDU 5554 TESOL Student Teaching 7 – 12
During the TESOL student teaching experience, teacher candidates will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained during course work—in learning theory, language acquisition, linguistics, diversity, methodology, curriculum, materials development and assessment—in actual ENL classrooms. Student teachers are required to follow a full-time teaching schedule in an secondary school under the direct supervision of a cooperating ESOL teacher from the field and a college supervisor with ESOL expertise. During this student teaching experience, teacher candidates will develop and practice successful classroom management strategies, instructional techniques and grouping strategies to provide effective learning experiences for English Learners (ELs)/ multilingual learners (MLs) and to ensure the simultaneous conceptual and linguistic development of these students. Teacher candidates will utilize journal writing, and portfolio development to promote reflective practices. Co-requisites: Teacher candidates must register for EDU 5552 and 5504 in the same semester.
