Progression through Communication Sciences and Disorders Program

The Ph.D. program in CSD is dedicated to helping students achieve high academic standards through an individualized plan of rigor and flexibility as determined by the Director of the Ph.D. program and the doctoral faculty advisors. Students will be assigned a faculty advisor at the time of admission based on their initial research interests. Students should understand that progress in the Ph.D. program is not purely grade-based. Students’ progress will be determined through successful completion of academic milestones through varied timelines depending on the student. “Successful completion” of academic milestones for each student will be determined by the Director of the Ph.D. program and those doctoral faculty advisors mentoring the student. A critical milestone of the Ph.D. program is conducting an original independent dissertation project that leads to a defense.
