NOTE: The General Education requirement is 44, and has been adjusted to 32, because the following Major and Related requirements will also satisfy the General Education requirement: MUS 2000 and PSY 1110. The Languages and Languages/Literature requirements are met as 6 credits of Related Requirements.
Major Requirements (70-72 Credits)
70-72 credits, dependent on outcome of Music Theory Assessment.
Music Theory Placement Requirement
0-2 credits pending waiver Student who fail the department’s Theory Placement Assessment must complete 2 additional credits.

Complete Piano Requirement (4 Credits)
All Music Therapy majors are required to take a minimum of four credits of piano coursework:
Students whose primary instrument is piano take MUS 1260 Applied Piano in place of MUS 1100 and MUS 1110, and/or MUS 2220 Piano Accompaniment in consultation with their advisor. All students (including pianists as primary) are required to take MUS 2230 and MUS 3150. (Students declaring piano as their primary instrument must enroll in MUS 1260 Applied Piano each semester for 7 consecutive semesters of their academic degree. Elective applied instruction may be pursued in consultation with the advisor to ensure all credit requirements are met in this category.)
Complete Guitar Requirement (2 credits)
Music Therapy majors are required to take two credits of guitar courses:

Students with more advanced knowledge may register for MUS 1540 Applied Guitar in place of MUS 1060/2070 in consultation with their advisor. Students whose primary instrument is guitar must enroll in MUS 1540 Applied Guitar each semester for 7 consecutive semesters of their academic degree. (Students whose primary instrument is guitar take MUS 1540 Applied Guitar in place of MUS 1060 and MUS 2070. Elective applied instruction may be pursued in consultation with the advisor to ensure all credit requirements are met in this category

Ensemble Requirement
Complete from the following courses (0-2 Credits):
(Ensembles are required for every semester a student is enrolled in the undergraduate Music Therapy Program. However, registering for an ensemble is not required during internship unless the 2 credits of ensembles have not yet been met)
Vocal Requirement (1 credit minimum, 2 semesters of courses required)
Note: Ensemble courses should be taken for 0.5-1 credit when possible.
Recital Attendance Requirement (0 Credits)
MUS 0100 is required for every semester a student is enrolled in the Music Therapy Program.
Related Requirements (18 Credits)
Psychology (12 Credits)
Note: PSY Elective is met with MUS 5290, taken as a Music Therapy Major requirement.
Languages (3 Credits)
Allowed Languages courses are: ASL, ARA, CHI, ESL, FRE, ITA, SPA.

Electives (0-1 Credits)
The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) requirement for a B.S. degree is met with 60 credits. FST 1000 counts as a required elective. If MUS 1010 is required, it may push electives to 2 additional credits, increasing the Total credits for this degree.
