BUS 5440 Business Analytics

This course is part of a series that introduces the student to the three broad categories of business analytics techniques: descriptive analytics (this course), predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.  Descriptive analytics encompasses techniques used to describe what has happened in the past.  This course (Business Analytics) will introduce the student to advanced topics in the areas of descriptive analytics which includes descriptive statistics, data visualization, modeling uncertainty, descriptive data mining, and statistical inference.  Students will learn how to analyze traditional data sets and Big Data using in-depth statistical models and analytics.  Students will learn how to uncover hidden trends in the data and will be introduced to a new suite of advanced analytics techniques.  This course will utilize spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel as well as other advanced analytics tools.

Competency in business analytics (descriptive analytics) will help prepare the students for success throughout their careers in a wide range of areas including accounting, economics, finance, healthcare administration, management, sports management, marketing, business intelligence, data science, information technology management, operations management, and project management.
