BUS 5460 Business Modeling and Simulation
This course is part of a series that introduces the student to the three broad categories of business analytics techniques: descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics (this course). Business Modeling & Simulation will focus on prescriptive analytics. This course will introduce the student to the area of prescriptive analytics and cover the advanced topics of spreadsheet modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, linear optimization models, integer linear optimization models, nonlinear optimization models, and decision analysis. In this course, students will learn how to run simulations and build models that will assist in the business decision-making process (i.e., help identify what we should do). This course will utilize spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel as well as other advanced analytics tools.
Competency in business modeling and simulation (prescriptive analytics) will help prepare the students for success throughout their careers in a wide range of areas including accounting, economics, finance, healthcare administration, management, sports management, marketing, business intelligence, data science, information technology management, operations management, and project management.
