BUS 5470 Machine Learning

Machine learning is a part of artificial intelligence that provides computers with the ability to learn from large sets of data. This course in machine learning is intended to provide students with a strong background and foundation of problem-solving skills and prepare students for a career in business analytics.  In this course, students will be introduced to both supervised and unsupervised learning, as well as cluster analysis, classification, and regression. Students will learn about data preparation, exploration, and reduction, and how to determine relationships in data and uncover hidden data patterns and examine traditional data and Big Data datasets. Students will experience developing neural network and deep learning models to assist with business decision making, often during times of uncertainty. Students will also learn how to apply these techniques to text analytics (TA), natural language processing (NLP), and neural networks (NNets) using deep learning. This course will utilize advanced analytics tools such as spreadsheet modeling using Excel, MATLAB, Python, or R.

Competency in machine learning will help prepare the students for success throughout their careers in a wide range of areas including accounting, economics, finance, healthcare administration, management, sports management, marketing, business intelligence, data science, information technology management, operations management, and project management.
