BUS 5450 Predictive Analytics

This course is part of a series that introduces the student to the three broad categories of business analytics techniques: descriptive analytics, predictive analytics (this course), and prescriptive analytics.  Predictive analytics is a field of business analytics that focuses on making predictions about future events using historical data.  This course will encompass advanced modeling techniques from mathematics, statistics, and engineering, and will employ data analysis and data visualization tools.  The course will focus on the proper application of linear and non-linear regression methods, time series forecasting, data mining, spreadsheet modeling, and Monte Carlo simulation.  Students will learn how to utilize historical data and uncover data patterns to make predictions about future events.  The course will utilize spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel as well as other advanced analytics tools.

Competency in predictive analytics will help prepare the students for success throughout their careers in a wide range of areas including accounting, economics, finance, healthcare administration, management, sports management, marketing, business intelligence, data science, information technology management, operations management, and project management.
