EDU 5025 Foundations of Education and Computer Science Education

This course offers teacher candidates an opportunity to examine computer science education, and its influences that impact upon regular and special education. A broad contextual view will be the basis for exploration into past, current and possible future computer science education processes, practices and issues through primary source literature and digital artifacts. This exploration leads to the candidate's final project: a rigorous, web based, well documented personal philosophy of computer science education incorporating a variety of digital media artifacts.

Teacher candidates will discuss current computer science education issues for student learners birth-grade 2, grades 1-6 or 7-12. Learning resources are developed collaboratively using the global internet, and tailored locally to the specific needs of learners. As part of an ongoing learning process, teacher candidates will begin to develop their own Professional Philosophy of Teaching and Learning, formulated as a result of research, discussion, instruction of the most recent technology, and reflection about their own school experiences.
