EDU 5414 The Science of Reading, Birth Through Grade 12

This course focuses on the foundation of the Science of Reading (SOR) and prepares literacy teacher candidates to use an array of pedagogical approaches necessary for literacy development and instruction. Teacher candidates explore best practices that may be used to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing instruction, and assessment. Developmentally appropriate, systematic, and explicit instruction of these foundational skills are researched, examined, and practiced.
