This program is designed to prepare candidates for New York State certification in Computer Science Education Pre-K-12 to become effective teachers of Computer Science. Computer science courses in schools provide students with the opportunity to learn how computers work and how we can use computers to solve problems in our society. The foundational knowledge in these courses is critical to preparing each child for success in college, career, and citizenship for the 21st century. Learning computer science concepts and practices develops computational skills, logic, problem solving, and creativity. This set of skills is important for citizenship and for any career in today’s world. This program includes student teaching designed for candidates who do not hold any NYS classroom teaching certification.
We do not accept teaching experience to count towards the Apprentice course (30 observation hours in a high-needs district) required in an initial certification program.

Prerequisite for this program: Bachelor's degree.
