Dissertation Committee for PhD Nursing

The Dissertation Committee is comprised of three members: the Dissertation Chair and two members. The Dissertation Chair and one committee member should be faculty members from the School of Nursing & Health Sciences. All committee members should hold doctoral degrees unless a significant rationale is presented for a member’s particular area of expertise that would benefit the student’s research. The Dissertation Chair should be experienced in directing research and have expertise in the specialty area and subject matter of the dissertation. The committee members should offer expertise related to the research problem in general, the specific variables under study, and the research method being proposed. The composition of the Dissertation Committee is subject to approval by the Director of the PhD in Nursing Program.

A curriculum vitae must be submitted to the PhD Program office for a committee member who is not a full-time faculty member of Molloy University. The curriculum vitae will also be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies.

The Dissertation Chair must be experienced in conducting research and minimally at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. Eligibility to serve on a doctoral committee is based on research productivity and/or expertise deemed central to the student’s research area. Adjunct faculty and visiting professors may be members but may not be chairs of dissertation committees.
