EDU 5240 Diverse Abilities and Needs of Students in Inclusive Classrooms Birth-Grade 2, Childhood 1-6 and Adolescence 7-12

This course examines key issues related to the education of students with special academic and/or social needs; physical or emotional challenges; cultural, social or economic differences. Special attention is given to teaching strategies, which create and foster environments conducive to the affective and cognitive development of all students in the regular education classroom. This course will focus on the creation of unit plans which are supported by learning segments designed collaboratively by teams. This course will prepare teacher candidates for the EdTPA Special Education Assessment by analyzing and applying the three tasks: (1) Planning for Instruction and Assessment, (2) Instructing and Engaging the Focus Learners and (3) Assessing Learning.
