EDU 5373 Methods of Teaching Creative Writing to Diverse Adolescent Learners

This course presents teacher candidates with mentor adolescent texts and with effective methods, techniques and strategies for stimulating diverse student learners to express their views and reflections through the genres of fiction, poetry and memoir with varied media techniques. Standards-based methods of teaching writing as well as enrichment and remediation approaches are included in the course. Teacher candidates will engage in creative writing assignments and learn how to effectively teach varied genres of writing to diverse adolescents in meaningful and engaging ways. Differentiated instruction and classroom adaptations to address the individual needs of students, including English learners (ELs) and students with special needs, in the area of creative writing will be explored.
