Teachers and teacher candidates will evaluate mobile applications on smart phones and tablets to promote effective educational technology teaching. This course considers how mobile computing has changed the educational landscape and how information is readily available and in new and different formats. Because mobile computing is ubiquitous, social media is part of K-12 students every day activities. This course will also look at social media websites for their implications in education. The course will provide teachers and teacher candidates a view of how learning strategies can incorporate different types of social media, including a focus on how their use in K-12 classrooms can build community, develop literacy and foster critical thinking for the 21st century learner. The course will provide opportunities for teachers and teacher candidates to create learning environments and activities utilizing mobile applications and social media. This course also helps to prepare teacher candidates for the edTPA Assessments by analyzing and applying the task of planning for instruction and assessment.
