EDU 5371 Literary Genres for Diverse Adolescent Learners

This course for teacher candidates emphasizes various methods of standards-based instruction for diverse adolescent learners in the areas of the major literary genres. Specifically, it focuses on poetic forms, short fiction, comedy, tragedy, the novel, media literacy, multiethnic literature, nonfiction, grammar, vocabulary and assessment. Methods of analysis of the styles and structures of each genre, effective teaching techniques, differentiated instruction, classroom adaptations and remediation/enrichment approaches for diverse learners are addressed for student-centered and technology-rich classrooms.
